What is Synaxis?
Synaxis is a UK equine supplement company. Our products are designed around nutritional gaps with meaningful consequences for cellular signalling and the biological processes that emerge from it.
Our first product, Synaxis Core, supplies algae-derived EPA and DHA directly — through a structured 90-day protocol designed around a specific and common constraint in modern equine diets.
The name
Syn — together. Axis — the central point around which everything turns.
EPA and DHA act at a single upstream point from which multiple biological processes radiate: cell membrane composition, inflammatory signalling, resolution pathways. Every tissue in the body is affected by the fatty acid profile of its membranes. These processes do not operate in isolation — they share common regulators, and EPA and DHA are among the most significant nutritional inputs acting at that level.
The name reflects that. Address the axis, and you address what depends on it.
Why Synaxis focuses upstream
Most equine supplements are organised around body systems or visible concerns: joints, skin, respiratory function, coat condition. That reflects how owners experience problems, and how the market has responded to them.
Synaxis takes a different approach.
Biological function depends on underlying cellular processes — membrane composition, signalling pathways, nutrient availability, tissue turnover. When these are constrained, the effects tend to appear across multiple systems rather than in one place. Addressing them at that level is a different kind of problem than targeting a single site.
Why omega-3 came first
EPA and DHA are incorporated into cell membranes throughout the body — in joint tissue, respiratory tissue, skin, and neural tissue — and they influence signalling across all of them. They are not a specialist nutrient for a specific concern. They are part of the biological substrate.
Most horses in the UK spend a significant part of the year without access to fresh grass. Hay provides very little EPA or DHA. The most common supplements added to address omega-3 intake rely on ALA — a plant-derived precursor that requires conversion before EPA and DHA become available. That conversion is limited and variable in horses, regardless of how much ALA is supplied.
The result is a nutritional gap that is both widespread and largely unaddressed by existing products. Synaxis Core was designed to address it directly.
What Synaxis Core is
Synaxis Core is an algae-derived omega-3 supplement for horses. It supplies EPA and DHA directly, without relying on conversion from plant-based sources.
The algal oil is derived from Schizochytrium sp. microalgae produced through controlled fermentation — not ocean-sourced, batch-consistent, and free from the contamination risks associated with fish oil. The DHA:EPA ratio reflects the natural composition of this organism and aligns with the profile used in published equine research.
The protocol is built around three principles: form matters, dose matters, duration matters.
Fatty acids are incorporated into cell membranes over time. A short course does not allow that process to complete. Synaxis Core is structured as a 90-day protocol because that is what the biology requires.
Synaxis Core remains the focus of the company. The aim is not to chase isolated symptoms, but to support biological function at the level where multiple systems intersect.
